Marans
originate from a small French fishing village of
the same name. The breed has two breeding directions,
one from France and one from England. The French
breeding has a small amount of feathering to the
leg and outside toe, whereas the English breeding
is free of any leg feathering. Marans are good sized
chicken and splendid layers of superb dark brown
eggs. They are curious in their nature and aren’t
renowned for going broody so you can be sure of
a good supply of eggs for the majority of the year.
I
currently breed French Wheaton.
Eggs: 220-250 per year
