The
Sussex is a very old traditional English breed,
with show records dating back to the 19th Century.
The oldest variety of Sussex is the speckled, although
probably the most popular variety kept today is
the light. They are a fairly heavy chicken with
a broad and deep chest. They are a robust and hardy
breed making them ideal for those new to chicken.
They are particularly friendly and have a great
character. The hens are excellent layers, sometimes
laying well into the winter months. They are at
their best free ranging.
I
currently breed Speckled.
